“We recognise that our business has an important role to play in protecting and enhancing the environment for future generations and to help secure the long-term sustainability of the Burren & Cliffs of Moher GeoPark”.To this end we at Hazelwood Lodge are committed to taking the following actions.
We collaborate with all stakeholders to collectively develop the Geopark as a sustainable tourism destination, for this generation and the ones in the future.
A cared-for landscape
We actively participate in conserving our natural and cultural heritage by been actively involved with the local Tidy Towns and the Adopt a Hedgerow project.
A well-understood heritage
We offer quality information and interpretation to communicate our stories and the unique character of our place. We do this by telling the Burren story to our guests and the printed material we have on display.
We work to ensure that tourism makes a positive social contribution so that it benefits our community as well as our guests. We encourage or guests to stop and talk with local who know the local folklore and its history.
We contribute to the local economy by maintaining and supporting local employment, by sourcing services and locally produced foods wherever possible, and by engaging with other businesses in promoting our region as a sustainable tourism destination.By signposting business to other tourism service providersand encouraging our visitors to stay a litte longer in the Burren & Cliffs of Moher GeoPark and its envoirns.
Sustainable Tourism Management
We work to an Environmental Action Plan, which includes targets for improvement that are reviewed annually. We have effective systems for monitoring and adequately managing our waste water, water usage and energy. Harvesting rain water for use in our gardens,140 solar tubes to help heat our hot water and our own state of the art treatment plant, all contribute to lessening our carbon footprint.
We endeavour to lower our impact on the Burren environment as much as possible. In engaging with our guests and impressing on them necessity of always be aware of their surroundings and to leave as little evidence as possible of been there.
